I’m David Levin, a freelance science and technology writer based in Boston. I’ve spent nearly two decades producing audio, interactive, video, and text pieces for media outlets around the country. My work has been featured nationally on public radio’s All Things Considered, Here and Now, and Living On Earth; as well as print media like Knowable Magazine and Smithsonian.org. In addition to traditional science journalism, I have also written for the National Science Foundation, Harvard School of Public Health, and the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution.
In the course of my career, I’ve interviewed Nobel laureates, flown in homemade aircraft, chased tornadoes through the midwest, and spent a month at sea with scientists studying exotic life on the ocean floor. Along the way, I’ve earned fellowships from the National Center for Atmospheric Research, Carnegie Mellon University, and the Marine Biological Laboratory.
Before setting out independently, I worked as as a web producer at NOVA, the PBS science series, where I launched and hosted NOVA’s award winning audio podcast. I also created audio features, blog posts, and interactive pieces for the show’s website, and produced the NOVA Minute, a science radio segment that aired weekday mornings on WGBH-FM Boston.
Fun fact: I’m not a scientist, but I did once play one on TV.
